ALLOY WHEEL POWDER COATING – THE SOLUTION YOU’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR

Your alloy wheels play a major part in making your car look appealing and attractive. If you care about making a good impression on the road then you’ll want to maintain your alloy wheels in the best possible condition, and powder coating alloys make doing this much simpler. As an alternative to the standard paint and lacquer method, alloy wheel powder coating ticks all the boxes. The finish is more durable, the range of alloy wheel powder coating colours and designs is wider – enabling you to create a truly individual customised look – and the process has a much lower environmental impact. Put it all together and you have a solution – especially if you come to Alloy Wheel Repair London – which means you and your car will never look back.

ALLOY WHEEL POWDER COATING EXPLAINED

In simple terms, alloy wheel powder coating is a finish for alloy wheels which protects the fabric of the alloy at the same time as completely transforming its appearance. When sprayed on to the alloy it creates a dry covering and then, when the heat is applied, the liquid of the paint emerges and forms a gel covering. A final lacquer coating then protects the vibrant powder covering from damage by factors like pollution, UV rays, scratches and wash swirls. Once in place, the paint is a long-lasting solution that ultimately saves you money at the same time as delivering fantastic results.

THE ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF ALLOY WHEEL POWDER COATING

The main environmental plus point of powder coating is that, unlike liquid coatings, it doesn’t contain any solvents. It is these solvents which, using the traditional technique, are released into the air as pollution, in the form of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). By getting your alloy wheels powder coated you’re not just saving money and making them look great, you’re doing your bit for the future of the planet.

THE POWDER COATING PROCESS

We demand the best from the team at Alloy Wheel Repair London so that we offer nothing but the best for our customers. This means that every alloy we powder coat is taken through the same strictly set out process. We’ve been doing this long enough to know exactly what powder coating alloys for the best possible results involves, and this is how we do it:

1. Collect or Deliver

We collect the wheels, or the customer delivers them. The tyres are removed using specialised equipment and stored after having been matched with the alloys. We then check the alloys for significant damage, and if repair work is needed, we’ll let you know at this stage. We’ll do the same if we think your wheels are no longer safe to use. The weights are then removed from the wheels.

2. Stripping

A chemical bath is then used to strip your alloys down to a bare metal finish. After this, aquablasting is used to remove all chemical traces.

3. Prep Work

Our team of experts then inspect every wheel to ascertain whether rubbing down or filling is needed. Once any preparation work has been carried out, the alloys can be given their first coat of primer.

4. Base Coat

After the powder coating of primer has been successfully applied, the alloys receive the first coat of one of the many alloy wheel powder coating colours.

5. Finishing

At this point, the alloys are sent to our expert lathe technicians, who either cut Diamond Cut wheels before applying lacquer or simply apply a coat of powder coat lacquer to painted wheels.

6. Inspection

All alloys are then rigorously inspected to guarantee a flawless finish, with a series of quality control checks keeping standards as high as possible. The alloys are then fitted back to the wheels, balanced and delivered or collected by the client.
